For which grade is GTR most suitable?

GTR, or Guided Tissue Regeneration, is a surgical procedure primarily used in periodontal therapy to promote the healing of periodontal tissue and restore attachment loss. This technique is particularly suited for cases of Grade II periodontal disease, where there is a moderate amount of clinical attachment loss and periodontal pockets.

In Grade II cases, there is often enough remaining healthy periodontal tissue available for regeneration, allowing GTR to be effective in harnessing the body’s natural healing processes. The use of barriers in GTR helps to exclude fast-growing epithelial cells from interfering with the regeneration of periodontal ligament and bone, which is crucial in these moderate cases.

In contrast, Grade I involves minimal loss and may not necessitate advanced procedures like GTR. Grade III and IV might present more severe damage or systemic issues which could complicate the expected outcomes, making GTR less suitable or effective in those scenarios.
